Overview

Buying new planters is expensive and usually the row units and technology are the only things that need to be upgraded. The Precision Planting Ready Row Unit is a solution that allows you to keep your existing planter frame, but upgrade to new row units and technology, for a fraction of the cost of a new planter. You’ll have the planter that you want and save a ton of money.

Trading Planters Doesn’t Make Sense RowUnit Hero 1050x600

Stop at any farm shop in the winter and one of the common activities you will find is a planter being prepped for spring. The planter row units are being gone through to make sure that all of the wear parts are in tip top shape; bushings, bearings, bolts, openers, gauge wheel arms all need to be at their peak in order to ensure the row unit will set the stage for consistent emergence and high yields.

Keep Your Planter, Spend Money on What Makes You Money RowUnit Keepyourplanter 1050x600

When many farmers trade planters, the goal is to get an updated row unit that doesn’t need maintenance this season while also updating to the latest technology. Typically the toolbar of the planter is in great shape. What if you could get the updated row unit and technology you want, without the expense and hassle of trading planters?

The Precision Planting Ready Row Unit solves both issues: replace your current row units with a retrofit row unit and then build on that row unit with the latest technology

Customized to Your Farm RowUnit Customized 1050x600

This row unit upgrade allows you to take your current planter, remove the row units, and add new row units that are ready to be equipped with the technology and systems that you desire.  You have the ability to work with a Precision Planting dealer to customize your planter to your needs with different gauge wheels, closing systems, row cleaners, and of course the Precision Planting technology to make your newly built planter maximize each seed.

The key to getting downforce correct is to measure the amount of weight on the depth gauge wheels of the planter.  If there is weight on the wheels, then the row unit is planting at the depth that has been set.  Too much weight, and compaction occurs; no weight, and seeding depth, or ground contact is lost.  Once the weight on the gauge wheels is known, it becomes easy to get that weight correct.  A load cell is used on the planter to measure the amount of weight that is on the gauge wheels.

Depth Matters RowUnit Depthmatters 1050x600

Consistent planting depth is critical to uniform emergence and stand establishment. Mechanical variation in the manufacturing process and wear on disk openers and the depth adjustment linkage can all lead to planting shallower than the depth setting. The Precision Planting Ready Row Unit features a depth calibration system which allows every row unit to be calibrated to the same depth before going to the field.

This photo illustrates the emergence variation between two rows of the same planter set at the same depth setting but with true planting depths varied by 5/8” between rows.

How Depth Calibration Works RowUnit Howdepthcalworks 1050x600

The calibration system ensures that the Precision Planting Ready Row Unit has every row planting consistently before going to the field. A simple mechanism on the row unit allows you to turn a lock nut to get the depth true; once that is complete, you have confidence all season long that the depth you have set the row unit at is the depth it is planting.

Beansprecision planting Ready Row Unit

Beans have sometimes been treated like a weed, but research is showing that managing consistent emergence and spacing of beans can lead to improved yields and reduced seeding rates. Precision Planting provides a complete suite of tools to plant your beans earlier and more accurately than in the past.

Corn 20150928 PrecisionHarvest MG 4489

You face multiple decisions throughout the corn growing season. Precision Planting technology helps make those decisions easier with in-cab data to allow you to make better decisions in the moment. This technology powers systems that control population, downforce, liquid application, multi-hybrid planting, and high-speed planting, all while sensing the furrow.

Sugarbeets Sugarbeets

It’s no secret that sugarbeets do not endure stress well. Precision Planting technology takes away some of the burdens by providing consistent spacing, depth, and seed-to-soil contact. A more uniform stand at harvest means more sugar with less waste during topping and lifting.

Sunflowers Sunflowers2

Meters are not one size fits all for sunflowers, but performance of singulation and spacing is key for consistent head size. That’s why we’ve designed and offer multiple seed disks to plant your sunflowers consistently and offer technology to avoid delays in emergence for your sunflowers.
